seoul, korea

Just returned from a very fun 72 hours in Seoul, Korea. The people, friendly. The food, fabulous.

Here’s a brief outline:

Wednesday: Arrive late and find my way to the Skype rent-a-phone station and catch a shuttle to Itaewon.  After a 1.5 hour ride, arrive in the city center and meet my friends. Off to bed.

Thursday: Awake refreshed and ready to go. The weather has other ideas, as it is pouring. Have breakfast (Mexican) at Suji’s in Itaewon. Known for it’s American brunch brought to Korea by it’s Korean-American owner via New York.  Explore shopping areas, and grab a quick snack at Don Valley Korean Food. We sample grilled octopus, traditional Korean soup, and a Korean pancake filled with spicy seafood. After a quick nap and tour of some lounges, we had a late dinner at JuJu, which is a Korean eatery in a tent on the side of the road. Discover Soju and more  kim-chi.

Friday: Breakfast is at Butterfingers, a popular Asian chain that serves stacks of pancakes, waffles, omelets, and anything breakfast-like.  Walk down another popular tourist shopping street and visit the underground mall. Have a drink at Top Cloud, the bar on the 33rd floor in downtown Seoul with a view of the whole city that spans for miles and miles. Visit a jazz club and the club circle, as well as an authentic Korean BBQ restaurant.

Saturday: Miss my early morning flight and suffer the recricusions of mixing vodka, soju, and tequila. Try to watch “Love Guru” and eat pizza.

Sunday: 7AM wake up to head back to the airport and back to America.
