Travel Guest Post: Cruising Bahamas, Mexico, and Curacao

Summer cruises are full of fun and sunshine, and most Caribbean destinations are full of bright color, terrific water sports, rhythmic nightlife, sweet rum drinks, and even cooling ocean breezes. Life on the water, even in the hottest of climates, is often surprisingly comfortable when you don your summer gear. Royal Caribbean can be found online, and it’s easy to check the average high and low temperatures to know how to pack your bags!

Bahamas Summer Fun

Cruises to the Bahamas in summer time are plentiful, and range from the highest of luxury to the most economical of budgets – and all provide the same sunshine and weather! The Bahamas in summer months have average high temperatures only in the high 80s F (up to 31C), and the breezes and plentiful shade make the bright sun far more friendly than city life.  Lows at night range from 70F to 75F (21C – 24C) – delightful for relaxing outdoors after a delicious meal. The islands of the Bahamas are a traveler’s delight, filled with color and festivals and sailing events, and always the warm friendly natives. The Junkanoo Summer Festival is a variation of Mardi Gras, with teams with costumes and music and dances, and happens nowhere else in the world. Snorkeling and scuba diving are particularly beautiful in the Bahamas, since no rivers bring silt to muddy the crystal blue, unpolluted waters, and clear bright sunshine clearly lights the exquisite reefs and marine life to depths of 40 ft (13m) or more.

Gulf Coast of Mexico

Rich in archaeological, cultural and ecological heritage, there is no more diverse and interesting coastline in the world than that of Mexico’s Gulf Coast. The Mexican people are friendly and welcome you to their heritage, festivals, and delicious cuisine – particularly for marine dishes, as well as chicken and beef, along with spicy sauces and mild cheesy fillings. Tracing it’s civilization back for over 3,000 years before Columbus and Spanish conquistadors, Mexico abounds in stone cities, temples and some of the largest pyramids in the world. Dotted along the enormous 1394 mile (2234km) Gulf coastline, many of these fascinating sites adjoin beautiful beaches of white sand and blue waters – perfect for day trips from your cruise ship.

The Island of Curaçao

The island of Curaçao lies just off the coast of South America, 42 miles (68km) east of Aruba, and is a very popular destination for cruise ships and summer travelers. Even in mid summer, the average high temperatures are below 90F (32C) – perfect for a fantastic range of water activities. Local food is creole style, with a distinctive blend of flavors from Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese influences. The famous Curaçao liqueur was born here, and is now enjoyed widely around the world. Rather than long endless beaches, the island has many more secluded stretches of beautiful, fine white sand, full of shells and sea life just offshore. The main port of Willemstad is active and full of wonderful shops, restaurants and nightlife.
