Travel Guest Post: Luxury Hybrid Cars- Go Green Without Sacrificing Luxury

These days, there are plenty of choices when it comes to a hybrid car. You no longer have to sacrifice luxury in exchange for helping the environment. In fact, you can buy a car that looks and drives nearly the same as its traditional fuel driven counterpart.

With gas prices rising to $4 a gallon or more, who wants to pay to fill up a gas tank weekly? Luxury hybrids have the advantage of saving you time and money at the gas pump, yet they still perform better than most other traditional cars.

If you’ve decided to embrace the green movement and invest in a hybrid, one of these four luxury hybrids may be for you. If you want to reduce your carbon footprint, while at the same time cruising in a luxury vehicle, all of these cars are good options.

Model: Lexus CT 200h
Price: $29,100
Combined MPG: 42 MPG

The fifth hybrid offering from Lexus, The CT 200h is the only vehicle in the luxury segment to top 40 mpg. This hybrid is the smallest of the Lexus models, which has its perks in the parking garage since you can finally fit into that “compact car” spot. The CT 200h also has a “sport” mode that adjusts the throttle, steering and traction control settings to increase the fun factor substantially. All in all, the Lexus is one of the sportiest hybrids available.

Model: Lincoln MKZ Hybrid
Price: $34,700
Combined MPG: 39 MPG

This hybrid gets better fuel economy than anything else in its class at 41 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway. And, the best part might be that hybrid starts at the exact same price as the standard MKZ – which is very different from the pricing model for other hybrids. Ford extended the power train technology from its award-winning Ford Fusion Hybrid to the MKZ.

Model: BMW 335d
Price: $44,700
Combined MPG: 29 MPG

OK, so the 335d is a diesel, not a hybrid – but the BMW 3 series is the sports sedan that other luxury sedans look up to. And, it gets good mileage, so we had to include it! The new breed of turbo-charged diesel engines burn as cleanly as equivalent gasoline engines – if not more so. And, the 335d achieves this clean fuel economy without sacrificing its trademark sporty performance. This model can accelerate at a sprint, turn and stop with remarkable agility and balance, all without compromising comfort or common sense.

Model: Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid
Price: $69,000
Combined MPG: 21 MPG

The 2012 Porsche Cayenne has a few upgrades from its (new model) 2011 counterpart – blind spot monitoring, upgraded carpeting, and wheel arch extensions that the same color as the sheet metal. As you would expect from a Porsche, speed and performance come first – thus the low mpg of 21. But, that’s significantly better than the standard gas mileage, and you get a top speed of 150 miles per hour! If you’re a sports car enthusiast, this is like having your cake and eating it, too. If you’re closer to the granola end of the spectrum, this probably isn’t the hybrid for you.
