Heading off

Of course, if you’re travelling then one of the most useful devices to have on you is something that can access the internet. Try a handset like the HTC One X smartphone if you’re looking for a power-packed solution that can tap into wireless access where available or can offer mobile connectivity no matter where you are. Alternatively, the new Samsung Galaxy is a gorgeous and a newly released smart phone that takes mobile connectivity to a new level. This, and many smartphones like it, makes a decent alternative if you don’t fancy the iPhone, and there’s no doubting that it does most things a computer can do, but in a pocket-sized fashion.

Tablets are another option worth exploring if you need to get online but don’t want the bulk of a laptop or netbook. The third incarnation of the Apple iPad is an obvious place to start, but there are also plenty of other options including the Sony S with its quirky styling and Android operating system.

If you prefer the lure of a computer with a more traditional ëproperí keyboard then it might be an idea to explore the current crop of ëutlrabooks, which are super slim and very light laptops that have been inspired by the Apple MacBook Air. They might be small, but these too are great gadgets for keeping you productive on the move.
Needless to say, these devices must have power to remain functional and one option to consider if you fear running out of juice at a crucial point on your trip is the portable power solution. One such device is the Veho Pebble, which is a portable battery that can provide power to any or all of your mobile devices. Itís a bit chunky but could be a lifesaver is less hospitable climes. Different countries also generally offer up a challenge when it comes to power sockets too, so to ensure you can keep recharging en route then try something like the iLuv universal power adapter. This allows you to recharge just about any kind of gadget and gizmo, no matter what kind of power source is available.

If you want to stay connected to the internet via mobile broadband then it could also be worthy considering a MiFi. This not only connects your own device to the local mobile broadband network, but it also allows up to five other users to tap into the source too. However, bear in mind that this might not be financially realistic if youíre only visiting a place in the short term.

When you get to your destination then it might also be useful to get yourself plumbed into your sound system, which thanks to mobile gadgetry, means you can easily attach one of many different travel speakers to enjoy top quality audio. These are small and easily packed, but can be a lifesaver if your away from home and yearn for HiFi quality audio.

You’ll also want to have a decent camera to record your travels, so why not pick the likes of the rugged Nikon AW100, which is a go-anywhere model that can take all manner of abuse in the great outdoors and still keep working.

And finally, try loading up some apps onto your smartphone or tablet purchases so that you can enjoy the best travel aids around, from maps through to hotel finders.
