It is replete with many gorgeous coastal towns. If you don’t know where to start, here’s a list of some of the most popular holiday places in Southern Italy:

  • Sorrento. Sorrento is a traditional resort town famous for its parks and beaches. For architecture and history junkies, Sorrento has a lot of quaint cathedrals which you can explore. Also notable is the Correale Museum of Terranova, which hosts a number of centuries-old paintings and artifacts. For the more adventurous, you can go swimming, scuba diving, and/or snorkeling in the nearby beaches.
  • Amalfi. Amalfi is a town brimming with rustic charm. Just like Sorrento, it has a lot of historical buildings like the Benedictine Monastery and the Cathedral of Saint Andrea. It also has a lot of breathtaking cliffs that dip into the sea. Tourists usually flock this town to swim in its sandy beaches.
  • Pompeii. Pompeii is an ancient city located right at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. It was one of the most prosperous towns during the Roman Empire, but it fell into ruins when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. It was rediscovered in the 18th century when archaeologists decided to do excavations. Most remarkable discoveries include the House of Vettii, which used to be occupied by a very wealthy family, and the Villa dei Misteri, which is considered as the most important building in ancient Pompeii.
  • Naples. Naples is counted as one of the most aristocratic towns in history. It is also famous for being the pizza’s place of origin so if you’re craving for some pizza, you’ll find the best ones here. Also, if you’re in for some sightseeing, Naples has a lot of museums, castles, and harbors which you can visit and take pictures of.
