Travel: The Most Luxurious Gyms Around the World

If you have the money to spare, you need not sweat alongside other people on a row of machines and treadmills. For those who want to work out in sheer opulence, there are several luxury gyms both private and public for people who have the money to look their best. Some may cost you more than paying for your own personal trainer; others are only open to pro athletes and celebrities. If you have the cash on hand, however, you can shell out five or six figures just to walk in the door and experience fitness like you have never seen before.

The Sports Club has luxury gyms in both Los Angeles and Washington DC, specializing in celebrity and politicians’ fitness plans alike. It is currently expanding into San Francisco, Miami, Boston, and New York City. Its Washington DC place has more than 100,000 square feet of gym space where members can take more than 100 fitness classes weekly. With an outdoor roof deck and five-star cuisine offered from local chefs, admission runs only $4,000 per year.

In one of the most expensive suburbs of Boston, Bosse Sports charges only $7,000 for each membership, though customers certainly get their money’s worth. Located adjacent to posh country clubs that have professional and semipro tennis and golf players on their rosters, Bosse services some of Boston’s élite with their nine tennis courts (indoor and outdoor, clay and concrete) as well as a massive indoor golf training center. Between the ellipticals and the indoor links, members can also enjoy a 30 foot climbing wall and an Olympic-sized pool.

In New York City, space is at a premium, which is why the Setai Club charges $5,000 per year and has personal trainers available for $150 per hour. Frequented by the bigwigs on Wall Street, the Setai is both a spa and fitness center, with their Aquagrotto heat lounge, Finnish sauna, aromatherapy, and mineral water Jacuzzi. A cocktail lounge allows the movers and shakers to network and exchange business cards once they are done with yoga classes taught by the city’s best instructors.

Deep in the mountains of Idaho, the Zenergy Health Club and Spa gives its members a combination of interior and exterior activities that are hard to beat. In addition to the standard elliptical, yoga, and weight room, Zenergy’s has a saltwater pool, hiking tours through the Rockies, and masseuses on hand 24 hours a day. All that is required to step through the doors is a $15,000 fee.

If money is not obstacle at all, your choice of gym has to be Athletes Performance in Phoenix, a $30,000 a year training program that West Coast celebrities, CEOs, and sports stars are more than willing to fork over to get the best bang for their buck. This facility includes a full football field, a 60-meter track, an underwater treadmill, and both hot and cold pools to stimulate and then relax muscles before and after a long workout.
