Lovers of luxury travel that  have a passion for Venice are indeed lucky people being that the lagoon city is a symbol of opulence and splendour par excellence.

At the time of the Doges, when Venice enjoyed its greatest magnificence, this unique city showed its capability to create a powerful empire that dominated the world economy for centuries. Just think that, in the year 1410, Venice could rely on a navy fleet of more than 3,000 ships manned by nearly 40,000 men.

Let’s say that a sojourn in Venice could be itself a dream for many people. Imagine if you could have a luxury experience in the floating city by staying at a sumptuous hotel, having dinner at the most exclusive restaurants and visiting some of the richest buildings in the entire world.

It was not a surprise when the Amam Canal Grande, the first 7 star luxury hotel in the city opened last May 24 featuring extra-luxury suites, sublime frescoes by Gian Battista Tupelo, an elegant banquet hall, a multifunctional spa, a library room lined with pure leather, 2 restaurants, 2 private gardens and even room-keys in brass. Rates for this 7-star hotel within Palazzo Papadopoli on the Grand Canal, right in the heart of Venice can be up to € 3.500 per night.

Let’s not forget about the Hotel Danieli, on the waterfront of Piazza San Marco. It is one of the historic luxury hotels in Venice built within Palazzo Dandolo, a magnificent Venetian palace and dating back to the 14th century. The terrace bar, on the rooftop, offers a spectacular view on Venice and its lagoon: having an aperitif or tasting a light salad menu here on a warm summer’s evening can be one of the greatest moments of your sojourn. In 2010 some scenes of The Tourist, movie starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolies, were shot at the hotel.

Hotel Cipriani, on the Giudecca island, is an authentic luxury icon including a wellness centre and even a fully heated open-air seawater pool. Priceless! On the Giudecca island, you can also opt for the Mulino Stucky, a former flour mill turned into a unique hotel belonging to the Hilton empire. Just like the Cipriani, it provides guests with a fabulous rooftop swimming pool.

Moving out of Venice towards the Lido island, you can stay at some of the most sophisticated Venice hotels. Let’s start with the Grand Excelsior Hotel. Perhaps not everybody knows that the first edition of the Venice Film Festival, back in 1932, took place precisely on the terrace of this magnificent hotel.

As an alternative, you might like to get a room where famous writer Thomas Mann stayed in 1911, taking inspiration for his novella “Death in Venice”: That hotel is none other than the Grand Hotel des Bains.

Being some of the top accommodation in the world, the hotels offer the very best in luxury.
If  would like to enjoy a much more peaceful and intimate atmosphere without giving up luxury, try sleeping in a 15th palace where Venetian nobles used to live some centuries ago and today has turned into a bed and breakfast in the Venice Lido. Located in the Venice Lido,
Ca’ del Borgo could be the ideal option for people who are looking for a luxury accommodation, but do prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Venice. And you will be sure to experience the genuine Venetian style, just as you were a local noble at the epoch of the Doges.
