The W residences in Hollywood are taking an innovated approach to Penthouse living. A  Million-Dollar Playhouse for Grownups, created by Beverly Hills interior designer Christopher Grubb, posh in the name of the game and guests count poker chips instead of sheep.

Imagine weekends spent practicing your golf game 12 stories above the buzzing streets of Hollywood on your own personal terrace putting green, watching not one, but four of your favorite sporting events simultaneously, or mixing after-hours cocktails for a dozen of your closest friends. For many, a second home is designed to be a sanctuary… the perfect place to steal away from one’s hectic life, but for the owner of this million-dollar home-away-from-home, the focus on fun—so much so that a bedroom is forsaken for the desires of a game room instead.

Penthouse 12G is a luxurious, entertainment-focused, open-floorplan suite that sits atop The Residences at W Hollywood, the residential component of the $350 million W Hollywood hotel. The brand selected Grubb for his distinctive luxury design perspective and to bring a real “wow “ factor into the penthouse. Grubb’s interpretation of an urban “playhouse” delights and inspires the W’s discerning residential clientele with lively, unexpected touches.

AIDG - Million-Dollar W Hollywood PenthousePriced at $999,000, penthouse 12G includes luminous elements, such as twinkling aluminum tile, wallpaper with subtle shimmer, Balinese seashells wrapped around structural columns, and unique lighting—all meant to convey the glitter of Tinseltown. The open floor plan is a palette of grays, blacks, and beiges with infused pops of color, including vibrantly hued, hand-blown pendants above the bar. Grubb chose custom elements and sumptuous materials befitting of a million-dollar home, such as textured woods, richly finished built-ins, velvet sofas, and linen gaming chairs. The resulting atmosphere combines classic opulence with hip modernity. A full-wall silhouette graphic of the Los Angeles skyline that continues to the exterior terrace, while a projector and 110-inch screen with concealed in-wall surround sound speakers for viewing parties or Wii competitions.

“I wanted to create something extraordinary and unexpected that would speak to those seeking a youthful, cool, urban experience,” states Grubb, noting the suite’s ideal occupant is someone who desires a grownup version of a child’s playhouse. “While another resident might place emphasis on a lavish bedroom, the owner of penthouse 12G is someone who lives for entertainment. They possess both the desire, and the means, to be playful and bold,” he says.

Therefore, the bedroom is unconventionally turned into a game room. Instead of a bed, the centerpiece is a sparkling chandelier over a custom designed game table with a stunning starburst center, which is ideal for poker or blackjack, as well as a formal dining setting.
“The result is one fun and amazing space,” explains Ron Barnes, sales and marketing director at The Residences at W Hollywood. Penthouse 12G reflects the energy of the iconic urban neighborhood below, providing a sophisticated backdrop for unforgettable gatherings truly indicative of the luxurious W lifestyle.
