World Cup Parties and Celebrations:

Brazil is usually known for its huge parties, from the world famous Carnival which takes over entire cities, to the amazing nightlife. The World Cup brings an extra element of celebration as teams win and lose. Expect to see tourists in full fan gear everywhere you go – from walking in the streets, to bars, restaurants and night clubs. If their team wins, well… be ready to share the joy with them; it’s great fun. Since the 2014 world cup odds see Brazil as a likely winner, leave your nationalism aside and cheer for the country. You will never experience a more exhilarating travel experience than being in Brazil if they win the World Cup. That’s really when the party starts – a full blown, country-wide, massive celebration!

Traveling Around Brazil:

Moving around Brazil between matches requires planning. It’s the largest country in South America, and the matches will take place in twelve different cities! Probably the best way to get around is to fly from one location to the next, although many local flights and hotels are already booked. The next best option is to travel by bus on a nationwide network that that is relatively low cost, dependable, and extensive but be prepared to spend many hours on each ride.

Accommodations:

When reserving accommodations, consider choosing one city as a home base and then traveling to other areas to view the matches and sightsee. Another way to visit Brazil is to reserve rooms in various cities, enjoying each unique destination. If travellers plan to stay for more than a couple of weeks, the first choice is recommended: visitors can rent a flat, enjoy local and tourist events, and rest up between matches. Be prepared to spend: hotel stays during the World Cup could be five times more expensive than usual!

Vacationing between Matches:

Brazil is an adventure in itself! Beaches, celebrations, markets, music, dancing in the streets, nightlife, historical sites, and sports… vacationing in and around Brazil’s cities is exhilarating!

From colonial villages to the Amazon jungles, an entire book could be written about the wide range of experiences available during the World Cup. The beaches reflect the flavour of African influence (Salvador) as well as the Argentinian, Polish, and German influences further south (Porto Alegre). While touring the country, it’s worth exploring the majestic Iguazu Falls.

Visitors may also want to walk around the legendary city of Manaus, situated deep within the Amazon. Then, when it comes to watching the matches, any available tickets can be purchased from the FIFA official ballots (at up to a 300% mark-up) or trade/swap tickets on a fan site.

Pack for Weather Extremes:

Remember that June and July are the cold/ rainy months in the southern hemisphere. Depending on stadium destinations, travellers may experience warm days on the beach, wet weather sightseeing, and unheated rooms. Clothing can be layered, and travellers are advised to be particularly careful about wearing expensive jewellery, carrying electronic devices, and keeping tabs on wallets/IDs/ and credit cards.

No matter the itinerary, when it comes to enjoying Brazil this summer… the fun has just begun!
