Travel: On the Wings of Love — Europe’s Most Romantic Cities

As well as being one of the world’s most culturally diverse and beautiful continents, Europe is a thoroughly romantic region. Couples looking for amorous, affectionate city breaks there are spoiled for the vast amount of choices.

With so many of the following destinations in close proximity, an CC BY-NC-SA is a tempting prospect. While you struggle to resist — even though resistance is futile! — here’s a closer look at each city’s lovey-dovey attributes and attractions.

Paris

Widely regarded as the city of love, Paris continues to be one of the world’s most popular destinations with couples, thanks to gourmet dining and scores of confectionary shops.

Maybe after overindulging at the dining table, however, you’re feeling a little romantic and want to express your love. Well, you can write your names on a padlock and attach it to one of the famed bridges at Pont Des Arts or Pont de l’Archeveche. Alternatively, why not just immerse yourself in a touch of ‘flâneur’ and stroll around the city, hand in hand?

Berlin

Berlin may still bear the scars of its past, but it’s a city with an obviously sentimental soul, one which is hard to ignore. During the day, you can take a relaxed walk around the palace and gardens of Schloss Charlottenburg, then head on elsewhere for high tea.

When evening rolls around, you can head to the Kleine Nachtrevue theatre for a touch of the risqué. Inhibitions? You’ll leave them at the door of this burlesque theatre.

Prague

Simply gazing at Prague’s fairy tale architecture fills most tourists with warmth and fondness, but there are plenty of other endearing experiences too.

You could be forgiven if you thought you were in that other romantic city Venice, when you take a gondola ride along Prague’s Vltava River and the Čertovka canal. Elsewhere, a museum dedicated to Alphonse Mucha showcases the artist’s art nouveau depictions of beautiful women.

Barcelona

While the passion of the architect Gaudi is evident across the city, Barcelona has lots of treats in between.

Traditional Arab and Turkish baths have been restored at the Aire de Barcelona, where you can relax after the late burlesque nights or simply after the adorable moments in each other’s arms. Of course, Barcelona, romantic as it is, won’t let that flame dim. Visit a flamenco concert in the city and the rhythm will soon enflame the passions once again! Don’t miss it.

Stockholm

Arguably one of Europe’s most handsome cities, Stockholm boasts beautiful waterways and scenic parks, making it perfect for a romantic city break. This charming city inspires a love in you for Stockholm itself and deepens your own affections to your partner that little bit more. Couples can go on a leisurely stroll through the old town’s quaint narrow alleys. If you’re looking for some slightly naughty fun in the Swedish sun you can cast your clothes off and soak up the rays on one of the city’s several nudist beaches.

Europe — with so many cities to enrapture a person, some might say the continent was designed for lovers. Wherever in Europe you choose to spend your city breaks, you’re sure to be in a place that has the power to stir your passions and even set your pulse racing!
