  • Florida Keys – No list of American islands would be complete without mentioning the Florida Keys, which are actually a chain of quite a few islands off the Florida coast. If you love nature and solitude, you’re going to love visiting them.

  • St. Helena Island – Located in South Carolina, this is a wonderful smaller island that’s roughly 64 square miles in size. That might not seem like a lot when compared to other islands, but it’s actually quite large.

  • Staten Island – New York City might not be what you think of first when islands come to your mind, but you can’t forget that Staten Island is one of the most famous islands in the entire world.

  • Ellis Island – Speaking of New York, we can’t forget Ellis Island, the place where millions have visited on their way to enjoy the freedoms of the United States. Home of the Statue of LIberty, this is definitely an island to check out more closely.

  • Kauai, Hawaii – This is one of the least developed islands of Hawaii. If you love nature in all her glory, this is definitely an island you’re going to want to see up close. Just make sure you bring a digital camera.

  • Chincoteague Island, Virginia – This small island is famous for its wild horses. Every year, the wild horses are gathered up and swim from Assateague to this island, quite a sight to see!

  • Amelia Island, Florida – For those who love to eat – especially shrimp and other seafood – this is a wonderful place to visit in Florida. Be sure to bring enough money so you can enjoy all the fine dining locally.

As you read the list above, it’s easy to see that America has quite a bit to offer when it comes to cool islands that you can explore and relax on.
