Travel: Melbourne for the Solo Female Traveler

Beautiful woman on the beach.

Despite the society’s twisted view towards a woman travelling alone, no one deserves it more than she does. It rejuvenates her and freshens up her perspective towards life, away from the mundane chores and responsibilities.

Travelling is about gathering new experiences, meeting new people, and just letting go; and when she is on her own, it culminates as the perfect medium of expression for her.

Of course one doesn’t need to be cocky and should always take safety measures, but when the city is Melbourne, the single woman traveller is in for a treat.

There are two kinds of women who travel; one who travels to get a break, and the other who does it just because she is passionate about travelling.

Either way, Melbourne doesn’t disappoint. Known as the world’s most livable city, Melbourne has the recipe for entertaining as well as making one feel at home.

Being a cultural hub with the Victorian charm to it, the city is a beauty to behold. Be it a group, a family, or a couple; there are umpteen ways to engage yourself in the city’s culture. The city, known for being extremely safe, friendly and welcoming is also the perfect choice for a solo female traveller.

For a woman to just let go and enjoy the vacation at Melbourne, nothing can beat the beach. Lazing around on some of the best beaches in the world such as St. Kilda Beach, Carrum Beach, Altona Beach and Williamstown Beach is transcendental.

When it comes to shopping, Melbourne has it all. One of the most famous streets in Melbourne, Degraves Street has a variety of boutiques and art shops steeped in the culture of Melbourne. The Queen Victoria’s Market is a must visit place to get an up and close encounter with the city and its diversity. Coffee being an integral part of the culture, one can spend a lot of time in streets laden with beautiful cafes and patisseries which are all over the place and open till the wee hours.

In tourist hotspots, the Eureka Skydeck is arguably the best spot with a jaw dropping view of the city in The Edge. St. Paul’s Cathedral is universally loved, and Flinder’s Street Station has carved a niche for itself in terms of architecture. Nature is at its best in the Dandenong Ranges. These places allow one to interact and mix with the culture on a very personal level.

Being a solo woman traveller, she is free to hire a car and be the master of her trip. There is no one to stop her and that sense of freedom is the best part of the trip. A city like Melbourne demands this sense of spontaneity. So a shout out to every single female traveller, go all out and be yourself in a city that allows you to be yourself!

  1. I’m a frequent traveller to Melbourne. Whilst I may not be a woman I do love everything about it and think it is a safe and enjoyable for any woman to visit. I love the city.
