Punk is about more than just a look, but the fashion that goes along with punk is a pretty big deal. Best of all, you don’t have to be in a punk band to pull off the look. In fact, you don’t really even have to love punk – the fashion really is a thing all of its own now.

Use this guide to help you figure out punk style and make it your own.

Keep Colors Minimal

Punk clothing isn’t goth, so you don’t have to stick to black. However, punk style is also a little bit dark, so you don’t want to wear tons and tons of colors at once, and some colors are ones that you should likely avoid altogether.

For example, bright colors like sky blue, yellow and orange are pretty much a no-no if you want to make your style a bit more punk.

Rock Your Denim

Denim is pretty a part of all punk styles, whether you’re talking about New York in the 1970s or you’re taking about Los Angeles in the 1980s. To make sure your denim is right, you want to make sure you have a snug fit, and you don’t want to pick anything too dark.

Ideally, you’ll choose colors like indigo, though you can pull off a pair of black jeans without much of a problem. Just make sure your denim isn’t perfect and pristine! A tear here or there can go a long way toward giving you that punk rock look.
