There are many brave souls who crave for adventures. If you are one of these people then have you started planning for yet another of your adventurous trips already? If you are then here is the place where you learn more about having the trip of your life. However, you should also remember to be prepared for the unexpected and often the worst, as someone rightly said that it cannot be an adventure until something goes wrong.

  1. Be open to change

If you are on an adventure, you have to be prepared for the fact that plans can change at a moment’s notice. You have to be flexible about that. Your train or bus could be late or never turn up. Your belongings could be lost, you could be stranded. A million thins could just be wrong. At the end of the day what will matter is how you managed to handle these sudden disasters or circumstances. Later when you tell stories, it will be about these hiccups. So be prepared to roll with whatever comes your way and take it with a pinch of salt.

  1. Know the lay of the land

Learn more about the place that you are travelling to. By this one doesn’t mean that you have to learn the entire history, geography and culture of the place. All you need to do is a bit of due diligence to avoid any awkward situations or other culture shock related faux pas. Sometimes ignorance of local customs and laws can have more serious consequences and land you in trouble with the law.

Also, it is useful to know a few of the local phrases. This will help you fit in and probably extricate you from some sticky situation or the other.

  1. Be a light packer

For adventure trips where you might have to rough it out, always pack lightly. Make sure to pack in the absolute essentials and then some more. If you are travelling for three weeks, pack for two. You don’t need five pairs of shorts and that dress in case you decided on a night out. If your trip has a lot of walking then do away with these useless extras which will only weigh you down. Ideally for short trips, your hand luggage should be enough for you.

  1. Have a contact

While going to your adventure destination, see if you can find a friend or a friend’s find living in the nearby area. Since it is an adventure there is a very real possibility of plans changing or disasters happening. In such emergency situations, a familiar face can be a godsend in terms of resourcefulness. This will help you in places where tourists are targeted by the locals. Here you will want someone you can trust to give you some local guidance. Be cautious but be open to new connections at the same time.

  1. Know yourself

An adventure trip also means testing yourself and often pushing your boundaries as well. So if you want to try new things and challenge yourself, you should. But prepare yourself before that. Brush up on the skills that you think your adventure might require. If you need to be fit, then train for a few weeks before setting up. This way you will have a realistic idea of what your strengths and weaknesses are.
