A Quick Paris Travel Guide

Paris

If you are going to Europe, you absolutely must visit Paris. It is for good reason that the capital of France is one of the most popular destinations for many people interested in Globus Tours as well. The city, based on the banks of the River Seine, is known for its romance and love. Wherever you go, you will be enticed with gorgeous smells of freshly baked breads, the sounds of busy Parisians and the colors of high fashion. The architecture, the history, the art, the style and the entire atmosphere is like nothing you will be able to find anywhere else on the planet.

About Paris

Paris itself was founded over 2,000 years ago. It was ruled by Julius Caesar in 52BC, which is when it first became a true metropolis. The city has been the heart of many important French historical events, including the French Revolution in 1789. Thousands of people were killed during this revolution including, ultimately, the King and Queen of the country. The history of Paris certainly is violent, but it has always had a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’, as well as true romance. People regularly fall in love in this city, and for good reason.

How to Get to Paris

Paris is one of the most international cities in the world, so it will come as no surprise that it is home to two airports. It is also reasonably close to various ferry terminals, including Calais. It has an extensive road, rail and public transportation network. Additionally, it is easy to visit the city on a river cruise by simply traveling along the Seine.

Where to Stay

Paris is a huge city so it has places to stay for every budget. If you have booked on a tour package, your accommodation will be arranged for you. Without such a tour, however, means that you have to make your own bookings and it is best to do so as early as possible because many places will be full. June, July and October are some of the busiest months in Paris due to the various fashion shows and weeks, so it can be difficult to find a place to stay then.

What to See

No matter where you are in Paris, you will be inundated with amazing architecture. The Sacre Coeur Basilica is not to be missed, also because you can enjoy views of the city from there. The Arc de Triomphe is not to be missed either, nor is the Eifel Tower and the Notre Dame. If you like art, then the Louvre museum is a must see.

Where to Eat

Paris is a city of food. It is impossible to enter a street and not come across some sort of eatery. There are many street vendors as well and these are very well-regulated, meaning you can eat safely. Do be weary of prices, however, as Paris certainly isn’t cheap.

Where to Shop

Shopping in Paris is also all around you. The French love their fashion, but also their decoration items and art. Make sure you bring your credit card!
