Fashion Spotlight: Aguaclara

Aguaclara was first conceived twenty five years ago, back in 1989 in Lima Peru, by the siblings Jorge and Liliana Villalobos. They launched their company with great enthusiasm and a vision: to design sexy, custom-made swimwear for the modern woman. They started with a small manufacturing workshop, making personalized garments. In a short time, Aguaclara became very popular in their market and has grown to the leading brand it is today.

Two prominent trends emerged in designer swimwear this season; tribal prints and also suits with longer sleeve lengths.

The two-piece ‘Pasion Animal’ animal print Lycra-blend bikini bottom ($64) provides natural mystique and pattern interest that is enhanced with the silk long-sleeve hand-embroidered cover-up top ($259).  At once casual and beautiful, this combination is also practical for sunny afternoons and cool evening breezes.

A woodblock print combines with geometrics in the ‘Esmeralda y Vichy’ Lycra-blend two-piece suit with bandeau bikini top ($105) and Missy bikini bottom ($74).  Designed for maximum impact, this strapless top and separate bottom mix green and black with innovative patterns that turn heads around the pool.

The eye-catching ‘Gema del Mar’ printed trikini blends geometric patterns with naturalistic shapes in a suit with an aggressive cut just right for making a powerful statement.  The long-sleeve 100% silk jacket ($250) ends above the knee worn over the Lycra-blend trikini ($169).  Together this look is appropriate for outdoor dining at the pool or lounging on the beach with a frozen drink in hand.
