The British Queens official residence, Buckingham Palace, is now recognised as the most expensive home in the world. A recent valuation placed it at around $1.51 billion. Now, not that it is for sale, but this sure is one large and expensive house.

It has 775 rooms, including 19 State rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. It also has a cinema, swimming pool, 40 acres of land and it’s very own post office.

The house which forms the core of the palace was built for the first Duke of Buckingham and in 1703. It was of course extensively remodeled and enlarged over time. Buckingham Palace finally became the principal royal residence in 1837.

Antilia is the most expensive modern home in the world. It was designed and built for Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai, India. Mukesh Ambani, is number 5 on many lists of the richest men in the world.

The homes consist of 27 floors, is around 528 feet high and its cost was an amazing $1 billion. ! The home has a gym, health club, dance studio, swimming pool, ballroom, guest rooms, various lounges, and a cinema. The car park is for around 160 vehicles and there are 3 helicopter landing pads. The Ambani family apparently employ around staff of 600 staff members.

Villa Leopolda reached in at 3rd place for the most expensive houses in the world. Valued at a staggering $500 plus. It is beautifully located, sat on the cliffs overlooking the French Riviera. Originally constructed by King Leopold II of Belgium in 1902. Currently owned by Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov.

This The 80,000 square foot estate is spread over approximately 20 acres; boasting 19 luxurious bedrooms and separate numerous vast bathrooms, beautiful terraces, sporting courts, a bowling alley, multiple kitchens, dining rooms and movie theater.

5. No: 6 Kensington Palace Gardens, London – $222 Million

No 6 Kensington Palace Gardens was bought by steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal back in 2008. It is a 12 bedroom, 14,000 square foot neo-classical Grade II listed house, in what has become as billionaires row in London.

This vast estate is probably one of Americas most expensive homes. It is located on approximately 60 plus acres of prime real estate in The Hamptons and boats according to various sources, , anywhere from 40,000 to 100,000 square feet of living space. Figures seem to vary but it seems to have around 20-29 bedrooms.

Outside in the grounds there are 3 large swimming pools, a very large theatre, two tennis courts, two squash courts, bowling alleys and a basketball court. Certainly an expansive estate.

The Hearst Mansion is located in San Simeon, California and was seen by many when it served as the backdrop of the world-famous movie, “The Godfather.”

The house was built for William Randolph Hearst and completed by 1947. It hosts 165 rooms in total and has numerous large villas for guests. A total of 58 bedrooms.
