5 Brave New Year’s Resolutions for Adventure Seekers

If you’ve made a promise for 2017 to be more adventurous, now is the time to get out of your rut and make magical things happen. Looking for resolutions you will actually stick to means you need to find something you actually want to do. And that means something that gets the heart racing and stretches personal boundaries. Whether you’re already a daring individual or you’re simply looking to get more out of everyday life, 2017 is all about pushing the limits. Here’s a list of activities you should be saying ‘yes’ to in the New Year!

1. Learn to Skydive

For the extreme adrenalin junkie or anyone that’s craving a different view on life, taking the skydiving plunge is a way to get all senses tingling. If you’re a newbie test the waters by booking in a tandem skydive. Opt for a location that lets you land on the beach for the ultimate experience. If free-falling from a plane has already been ticked off your bucket list (or you’re just feeling really adventurous), why not take it to the next level and learn to skydive?

Learning to skydive will take time and commitment – but the buzz that comes with free-falling on your own is certainly worth it. Once you’ve become a qualified solo skydiver, experiment with different skydiving techniques to fuel your adventure seeking. Soon as you’ve committed to the training, it’s safe to say you’ll be a freefall addict!

2. Go on an Epic Road Trip

Have you ever just wanted to pack the car up, grab a mate or two and just drive? Random road trips are one of the simplest and fun ways to create your own memorable adventure. Grab a mate (or your dog) and head out with a vague idea in mind and a car full of tunes. Set out for as long as you’re able too, whether it’s just a day or a weekend. Even just a few hours out on the road to a new destination with the music blaring can be enough to quench your adventure craving.

If your partner suggests a spare-of-the-moment road trip or your best friend calls you up to get out of the house, say ‘yes’ to more activities. Even if you don’t feel like it in the moment, getting up and doing something different will be the micro-adventure you’ve been waiting for. And who knows, you might even discover a great new place to visit too!

3. Be Unpredictable

Being unpredictable can be fun. It allows you to stretch personal boundaries and step outside your comfort zone. As naturally social creatures, being unpredictable can help fuel better communication skills and bonds with the people around us. Characteristics of unpredictability can be applied in both your professional and personal life and make you feel more confident.

Try a new scent of perfume or a completely new dress style, make new friends, invite more people to lunch, break some of those old traditions and become a newer, better version of you. Whilst you don’t want to stray too far from who you are as a person, finding small ways to add a sense of unpredictability in your life can contribute to a lot of healthy factors.

4. Spend a Night Under the Stars

One of the best ways to get out of your comfort zone is to explore what the world has to offer after the sun sets. Grab a tent or a swag and set yourself up to spend a night under the stars. You don’t have to venture off too far; but if you can find a place where light pollution is significantly lowered, seeing the moon and sky at its peak will make for more memorable experience.

Visit some local National Parks to find a spot or head to a beach location. If you don’t have the camping gear, simply set up a blanket, sit back and take it all in for a few hours. Bring a camera too for some epic astrophotography shots. Even just a small amount of time disconnected from everything else at a staggering destination under the stars can encourage you to see things in a totally new light.

5. Tackle a Long-Distance Hike

If you love a good challenge and want something to really get the heart racing, add a long-distance hike to your 2017 bucket list. No matter what location you’re in, there’s always some fantastic walking and hiking tracks to find to suit all fitness levels. Soaking up the outdoors and getting a change of scenery is one of the best ways to start the New Year. Some tracks will require some serious training and planning for the ultimate adventure seeker and if you can’t spare the time for a huge hike, you can shorten the journey for a smaller portion of awesomeness.
