5 Honeymoon Road Trip Ideas

Road trips are always a great way to travel, whether it’s for a spontaneous weekend trip or a well-planned-out honeymoon. What’s a better way to start this new journey in your life than to go on an actual journey? Right? However, it’s important to remember to be safe, especially while driving in bad weather conditions. Be sure to check the weather in advance in order to bring the necessary equipment. If it’s going to be raining, make sure that the windshield wipers on the car work properly. If it’s going to be snowing, have some snow chains handy. That being said, here are a few honeymoon road trip ideas to fuel your wanderlust.

The California Coast – 2-3 days

Want to stay in the United States? Start in San Francisco and head down the Pacific Coast Highway. Have a mini photo shoot at the Golden Gate Bridge before grabbing some boba – the latest popular drink in the Bay – and heading down the coast to Big Sur.

Once there, check out Pfeiffer Beach and McWay Falls, two of the most picturesque places in the area. Take a few hours to just soak in the natural beauty of the landscape. Stay the night at Post Ranch Inn, which provides guests with modern, luxury cabins that have an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean.

Continue until Santa Barbara, and enjoy the fun shops on the pier, filled with all sorts of candies, post cards, and shell jewelry. Finally, drive into Malibu, the home of many celebrities, including Beyoncé, Ellen DeGeneres, and Britney Spears. Rent out a beach house and just spend a few days together, sipping on margaritas and listening to the sound of the ocean.

Tasmania – 5-10 days

Tasmania is an Australian island paradise, so this trip is a bit longer than the other honeymoon trip ideas on this list. Start by exploring the city of Hobart. Head up to the top of Mount Wellington, and enjoy the view of the entire city and beyond.

Because Tasmania is filled with amazing natural landmarks and cute little towns, there are too many places to visit in just a few days. The fishing town of Stanley, the resort village of Strahan, Freycinet National Park, and Montezuma Falls are all highly recommended, and there are dozens of others that are worth a visit. After a few days of exploring this gem of an island, make a loop and finish off in Hobart.

Switzerland – 4-5 days

Throughout all four seasons of the year, Switzerland remains stunningly beautiful. Start this trip by wandering around Zurich for a bit. If it’s in the summer, grab some gelato and sit by the lake. If it’s in the winter, find a café and enjoy some Swiss hot chocolate. After a night or two, head off to the famous town of Zermatt. Take the gondola up to the Matterhorn, rent some skis, and head down a few slopes.

The final stop on this Swiss adventure is the small lakeside village of Vevey. Spend a couple of relaxing nights at Hotel des Trois Couronnes. Sip some coffee while relaxing at the Puressence Spa and enjoying the view of the French Alps together.

Alberta, Canada – 3-4 days

This nature-filled Canadian road trip begins in Calgary. Visit some of the many historic sites and monuments, like the Heritage Park Historical Village and the Famous Five Statues.

Head east and stop at Sulphur Mountain. Take a gondola up to the hot springs and just relax together there for a few hours. After spending the night at a Bed and Breakfast, head to Lake Louise in the morning. During the winter, this is the perfect place to ski, and during the summer, it’s a great place for hiking. It’s not extremely touristy, so newlyweds can come and spend some time alone on their honeymoon, without being entirely removed from the world.

Northern Italy – 4-5 days

Finally, where could be more romantic than Northern Italy? Start in Milan, the city of fashion. Buy an Italian leather jacket for him, and a leather purse for her to wear in the amazing photos to come. Next, head to a small town called Saló, the perfect little village to just sit by the lake and share a couple scoops of gelato.

After spending a night there, continue east until Verona, the town of the most famous couple in history – Romeo and Juliet. Wander through the small little streets and purposefully get lost. Perhaps climb up onto a balcony and proclaim declarations of love for each other.

Finish off in arguably the best place for honeymoon: Venice. Eat the world’s best pizza, go to a masquerade ball, and ride a gondola through the Venetian canals. A perfect way to start a new life together.
