California Dreaming

After spending a week in Vegas, living excessively and dealing with 110 degree weather, I am very happy to be back in the city of angels. People I meet when traveling either love LA or despise it. For those of you that adore the laid-back atmosphere, beach living and the SoCal lifestyle, here are some tips to bring a little California living into your life:

*Bring the outdoors inside, and vice versa. We love to lounge around outside and enjoy the perfect weather, so extend your living space with plush patios, outdoor seating and colorful furniture. Indoors we like to keep things light, airy and bright. (Black leather furniture is so 1985.) One of my favorite places when I didn’t live near the beach was an all white bedroom. Mix and match fun dishware, throw down a colorful carpet, grow plants for added greenery and accent with tons of pillows for that cozy-chic vibe.

*We love to try new activities.  For outdoor workouts,  natives will run the Santa Monica stairs, jog the coastal trails, hike Runyon and Malibu Canyons and explore the sand dunes in Manhattan Beach. For indoor activities, try Hip-hop yoga, Tabata Method or stand up paddle surfing for a fun time.

*Eat fresh. LA opened the first raw food restaurant in 1917. (Eutropheon) Now, you can find dozens scattered throughout the city. (Planet Raw, Leaf, Rawvolution). Try out the local farmer’s markets from everything from California Avocados to the homemade tapenades.  We even specialize in healthy cocktails. Trendier places serve organic cocktails, such as the Green Bloody Mary at the Viceroy and the Veev (Brazilian health berry) Cooler at Sashi in Manhattan Beach.

*Wear what you like.  From Ugg boots with miniskirts, flip-flops with Chanel dresses to jeans for any occasion, LA lets you wear what you want. Be comfortable. Be unique. It’s all OK!
