It is that time of year again when New York City gets all decked out for the holidays and turns into a magical place. Here are 5 things you must see and do in December to immerse yourself in the holiday spirit:
1.) Ice Skating
Park of the holiday spirit is ice skating in New York. Choose from classic Central Park, quaint Bryant Park, casual Chelsea Piers or glamorous Rockefeller Center. No matter where you go, make sure to have a cup of hot chocolate while people-watching.
2.) Window Shop Displays
New York is known for having some of the most beautiful holiday window displays. Check out Lord and Taylor, Saks, Barneys, Bloomingdales and Macy’s for some of the most decadent displays.
3.) Holiday Markets
The city is filled with shopping, but for a truly unique experience, try one of the holiday markets. In Union Square, shop for handmade goods while sipping fresh coffee and sampling everything from crepes to pork buns. Over 150 vendors are present with build your own beer kits, handmade jewelry, recycled accessories and more. It’s sister market, in Columbus Circle has a holiday market featuring over 100 different local vendors.
4.) Radio City Christmas Spectacular
Watch the 85th anniversary of the world-famous Rockettes’ performing in NYC, with a new piece from director and choreographer Linda Haberman that honors the show’s costumes over the decades. A revamped version of last year’s 3-D spectacle follows a mother and daughter as they search for the perfect Christmas present. 5.) Take a Day Trip
Rent a durable vehicle, such as the Honda CRV 2013, and take a leisurely trip outside of the city and explore outdoorsy Vermont, Washington DC or Boston. Popular choices nearby include shopping at Woodbury Commons, quaint upstate New York or even nearby trendy Brooklyn.
