Lady Gaga is stopping in Chicago not for one night, but two for her “Born This Way Ball” tour in February. After selling out tickets for her Feb. 13 concert date, Gaga announced that she would perform a second show Feb. 14. The highly anticipated concert two years in the making is likely to feature more of Gaga’s stunning visuals, awe-inspiring costumes and well-known songs and anthems from her latest album “Born This Way.”
More than music
. Lady Starlight – a popular DJ – helped Gaga develop her stage identity and make her the performer she is today. Starting out at Lollapalooza in 2007 together, Lady Gaga and Lady Starlight are still performing together today, and Lady Starlight will open for Gaga on the “Born This Way Ball” tour.
Memorable moments
From her dramatic entrance in an egg at the Grammys of 2011 to her infamous meat dress later that year to her male persona Jo Calderone at the MTV Movie Awards in 2012, Gaga has certainly made a statement with her often gaudy fashion choices. Not to be forgotten are her theatrical, lengthy music videos – particularly the video for “Born This Way” – that employ her different characters and tell her stories.
At the concert, fans will hear hits from Gaga’s album “Born This Way” including the title track and “The Edge of Glory.” The immensely popular album –which sold over a million copies in its first week of release – climbed music charts in more than 20 countries. These popular hits have resonated around the world and are still making an impact two years after the album’s release. Gaga performed “Born This Way” from before the album was released on her last tour and is still performing it today.
At the heart of Gaga’s performance will be her desire for self-empowerment for all, especially her “little monsters” – a name for her devoted fans. The single “Born This Way” is the essence of the album and is the clearest expression of her message. This message strongly resonates with her fans, as it evident with the song’s debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.The song has also become an unofficial anthem for the LGBTQ community with its message of empowerment in individuality.
In January, fans in Dallas began camping outside the American Airlines Center concert venue, two days in advance Gaga’s performance there. Expect plenty of little monsters to camp out on Chicago streets and fill up Chicago hotels over Valentine’s Day weekend for this anticipated two-night show.
