The hoodie – originally known as the hooded sweatshirt – has come a very long way since the early 1930s, which is when Champion created the first of its kind. Factory workers in New York were the first to wear this article of clothing, mainly because of the cold-working conditions the employees were confined to. The warehouses were freezing cold, but the workers still needed to do their jobs.
The hoodie eventually became a sport’s fan and athlete’s number one fashion choice. Women were often seen wearing oversized hoodies, mainly because they belonged to their boyfriends, and this was a statement that let everyone know the two were dating.
