Upon examination, men’s street style blogs across the globe seem to feature similarly dressed chaps. Slick shark skin suits, colorful sneakers, denim metal-head vests – you’ll find identical pieces draped across stylish fellows from Tokyo to Idaho.

In my travels and decade spent as a barber/stylist, I’ve noticed men’s hair trends do vary widely from city to city. Did you notice all those rattails in Prague? How about pigtails in Portland, OR? Even if your particular coif doesn’t end in a “tail” suffix, chances are you’ve got a doppelganger three continents away. Let’s take a look at what’s going down in your town:

The Slicked-back Draper

Okay, so the fact is – this look is pretty popular everywhere right now. It looks sharp and can veer casual. It even works on a receding hairline! But the men ‘Down Under’ take it a step further and are doing the head-to-toe-pulled-together look. Business is booming, it would appear…

The rumor for over a century has been that the French folks either make or break the trends. This streamlined look is modern, classic and makes men’s hair loss look awesome. Parisian men have embraced their lack-of-roots (and by that, I mean follicles, of course) and I salute them for it.

The Topknot

Those British boys are mighty daring! While some would argue this is a hairstyle more suitable atop a woman’s dome, the stylish men in the UK would debate that topic…and win. The truth is, ladies love a bloke with the confidence to pull a look like this off. Good show.

Once again, the prize for the most outside-the-box look goes to the creative men stomping the streets of Japan. The guy pictured here would be considered a Plain Jane over on the island nation. You’ve probably all seen the candy-colored kids lining the streets, waiting to have their photos snapped.

Okay, so this pair of Austrian twins are…dressed like twins! Seems pretty bold for a couple of grownups – and then you consider the hair. The big, wild and crazy styles promote embracing your natural texture and keep your look up-to-date. Oh, wait a minute – is this an homage to Mozart?
