Perhaps it’s a result of men marrying later in life these days, but Jager-fueled bachelor bashes at questionable “gentlemen’s clubs” are no longer in fashion. Today’s groom is more likely to gather his best buds for a weekend adventure. Sure, Jager may still be involved, but the entertainment choices are more about bonding with the fellas. Here are five unique trip ideas for a memorable bachelor party.
College Bound
There’s not much better than heading back to the old alma mater. Pack up the car and take a road trip to the place where you and your best friends built some awesome memories. If possible, sync up your trip with college football season. Tailgating is the perfect kickoff to a bachelor weekend. Be sure to pick a game your team is practically guaranteed to win. A loss will bring down the whole crew. Plus, with a weaker the opponent, you’re more likely get your hands on great tickets. Splurge on skybox if possible. If ever there was a time to go big, it’s your bachelor party.
Put it in Drive
Driving schools around the country offer weekend-long courses to give you hands-on experience with everything from high-end sports cars to off-road vehicles to racing go karts. These driving weekends provide a perfect outlet for men to compete in something we all believe we’re better at than anyone else – driving. Once you get behind the wheel and strap on the helmet, you’ll be convinced you’re half Mario Andretti, half Dale Jr.
Take the Leap
Not every man enjoys jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, but once you try it, you’ll never forget. It’s worth traveling a bit to find an especially beautiful skydive venue. Who wants to just stare down at some brown field when you could enjoy a truly unique view of the Atlantic coast or Rocky Mountains? Don’t just do one jump either, make a weekend out of it. You might even be ready to solo by the end. With so much adrenaline coursing through your veins, you and your buddies will be on a high the entire weekend.
Give Me the Keys
For a laid back bachelor party weekend, you just can’t beat the Florida Keys. This is where we went for my friend’s bachelor party a couple years ago. We rented an amazing four-bedroom house on the water for around $100 per night per person. The great thing about the Keys is that anything you could possibly want to do on the water is there at your fingertips. We did a little deep-sea fishing, some scuba diving and even caught – and then grilled – several delicious lobsters. One evening, we headed down to Key West for what turned into a long night of drinking.
The Great Outdoors
There’s something special about heading out into the wilderness to do a little camping…you and your buds hanging out by the fire, tossing back a couple cold ones, retelling stories about, “that time Mikey did that thing.” If you’re looking for something a bit more raw, hunting may be an option. Just make sure you put down the liquor long before you pick up a rifle and make sure everyone has appropriate permits. Otherwise, the next campfire story may be, “remember the time Mikey got thrown in jail for poaching? We sure miss Mikey.” On second thought, maybe you should just go fishing in the Keys.
