When you’re making your bucket list for travel, it can be difficult to pin down all the destinations you want to go to. There are so many places in the world to visit and so much to see, that sometimes it feels like your list will be infinite.
However, one place you should keep high on your list is Africa. Here are some reasons to put the continent on your bucket list for 2020 and beyond.
It’s huge – so there’s something for everyone
Africa is a vast continent, with countries of all sorts of sizes, but you can break it down very roughly into three areas:
- North Africa – North African is made up of seven countries, including popular destinations such as Tunisia and Morocco. These colorful countries have a very distinctive culture and are full of historic buildings and influences from the nearby Mediterranean.
- Central Africa – From Mozambique to Botswana, the central area of Africa is full of interesting destinations. People often visit this area to see natural beauty, from deserts to mountains, as well as enjoying safaris, hikes and outdoor activities
- South Africa – A sprawling country in its own right, South Africa has cultural cities, wineries, national parks and much more.
It’s almost impossible to completely tick Africa off your bucket list because there are so many sides to the country, but you can certainly have fun trying.
It’s packed with natural beauty
Whether you like mountains, deserts, forests, or waterfalls, Africa will have some wonderful examples of your favorite natural features. One of the best ways to see Africa is by booking a safari with Tanzania Odyssey, which allows you to get up close to exotic wildlife, and you’ll no doubt want to bring along a big memory card to store all the amazing photos you get on this kind of trip.
One of the most underrated parts of Africa is probably its beaches. Other than areas like Tunisia and Egypt in the north, it’s not really seen as a beach destination. Zanzibar in the east has some amazing beaches on this relaxed island, where you can swim in clear waters alongside turtles, or you can go further out to sea to Seychelles for a choice of beach paradises.
The rich culture and history
If you love history, then Africa is the ideal destination for you. The Cradle of Humankind is the site where some of the oldest discoveries of modern man have been made; you can’t get more historic than that. Each country in Africa has its own distinct culture too. For example, in the north, it’s influenced by the nearby Mediterranean, but as you move south, you discover the many colorful traditions of the African people.
You get a friendly welcome
When you’re a tourist in a strange land, you want people to be welcoming, and Africa is one of those places where you get a warm welcome. Whether you go to the main tourist centers, or off the beaten track, you’re sure to get a friendly welcome from the locals.
If Africa isn’t on your bucket list yet, why not? It has a vacation style to suit all sorts of travelers as well as amazing experiences that you’ll never forget.
