5 Great Travel Tips

So this week I have gone Wasington DC-Orlando-Daytona-New York-LA. If this week alone doesn’t qualify me as a frequent traveler, I have no idea what does.

Here is the time you learn from my mistakes and make your travel time easy and painless.

Tip #1: Carry on your luggage.

With every airline charging high fees, you will not only ensure that your bag actually makes it with you, but will save yourself some cash by carrying on. After trying several different types of luggage, my favorite bag is still the standard flight-attendant-like rolling bag. Preferably in Louis Vuitton or Gucci.

Tip #2: Use mileage programs.

I try to narrow it down to a couple of programs with the most flexibility (Star Alliance, for example) and fly on those carriers. Not only will you earn free trips ( Round trip for 2 to Hawaii last year, several Southwest trips and a RT business class to NY this year) but you will also get great little perks like double mileage, early boarding and first class upgrades.

Tip #3: The comfort kit.

Now I know when traveling light, this tip sort of hinders that tip. ‘The comfort kit” should fit into your carry-on bag and should you comfortable and entertained for your flight. Mine always contains a book or two, almonds, mints, ipod, lotion and lip balm.

Tip #4: Conquer Jet Lag.

I like to hit the ground running when I get to a new country, and the easiest way to do that is to invest in Jet Lag Pills. These nifty little critters even out your circadian rhythms and adjusts your body’s time clock.  Other people have also suggested to drink plenty of water, and avoid alcohol and caffeine. (ahem.)

Tip #5: Be organized.

Yes, it is easy to be super stressed while traveling if you have no idea what airline you are on, what time it lands, etc. The best way to beat this: be prepared. If you are not the old-fashioned, print-out-the itinerary type of person, try new technology such as Tripit.com and WorldMate.com.

Happy Travels! =)
