New Orléans is the possibly the most unusual city in the United States. Although a part of America, people who come to visit for the first time, experience culture shock. One of the reasons for this is the very establishment of the city. Most of its inhabitants were French-speaking people of Acadia. Over the years, free Africans, Spanish, and Haitians made New Orleans their home. When in New Orleans, don’t become overwhelmed by the culture. To really soak up New Orleans culture, take a trip down Bourbon Street where locals and tourists bump elbows. Nothing breaks down cultural barriers like a nice meal, music, and a drink or two.

Although its original European roots are unknown, this celebration was first introduced to Louisiana in 1699 by the French explorer, Pierre le Moyne. It is a perfect mixture of all things New Orleans. It blends the Cajun, Creole, African, and French cultures. Attending a Mardi Gras may seem like a person has traveled to a foreign country. It is a good way to experience New Orleans but it is good to research and learn some of the etiquette and lingo of the Mardi Gras so that the events do not become overwhelming.

This football team is the pride of the city. The games broadcast from any one of the sports bars spread throughout New Orleans or up close and personal at the Superdome.
