When you are in South America, you may want to take the time to visit a carnival in South America. This will allow you to see a true celebration of culture and diversity. A festival in South America will allow you to experience the culture, let loose and really enjoy yourself.

Salvador’s Carnival Brazil

Salvador Carnival takes place in Bahia, Brazil. It is scheduled to take place from February 25 to March 5 in 2014. The carnival usually takes place sometime in February. You can stay along the parade route, or you can stay within walking distance.

Festival of the Sun

The Festival of the Sun is celebrated every year on June 24th. It is also known as Inti Raymi. In the Southern Hemisphere, this is the shortest day of the year. The Incas celebrated it as the beginning of their new year. You can visit Cusco, Peru to see the festival, which includes traditional dancing and a march around the ruins in the area. The great thing about this festival is that majority of the activities are free. In addition to the traditional dancing, there are concerts held at night, and the activities take place on the days surrounding the official day of June 24th as well.

Tango Festival Argentina

The Tango Festival is a huge festival and dance completion that takes place in Buenos Aires every August. In 2013, the festival will take place from August 13th to August 27th. You can go and take dance lessons during the day and watch the championships during the night. This is a very famous dancing competition.

Oruro Carnival Bolivia

This festival will allow you to see the traditional folk dances of the people of Bolivia. It takes place in Oruro, Bolivia in February of each year. The festival includes watching different traditional dancers perform on their pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Tunnel. Be sure to book ahead so that you can enjoy the festival.

Rio Carnival Brazil

The carnival is Rio de Janerio, Brazil is a must see festival in South America. Whether you are backpacking in South America or just planning a trip, you must make time to see this carnival in South America. In 2014, the Rio Carnival is scheduled from February 28th to March 4th. This will make it possible for you to visit both the Salvador and Rio carnivals if you plan carefully. You can participate in or watch the Samba parade or attend one of the many evening concerts or the ball.
