Fashion: Motorcycle Fashion

When you think motorcycle fashion you may think leather and chains, but there is a lot you can do with solid leather pieces. Even the stars are dipping their toes into motorcycle inspired fashion. The truth is leather is no longer just for punks and rebels.

The Leather Mini Dress

Form-fitting leather mini dresses are the latest red-carpet trend. Stars have found that the material is very versatile, coming in different styles and varying colors.

The leather gives a chic appearance, but paired with the right accessories does not dampen their femininity. Bright leathers are best paired with nude heels and other neutral colors, while black dresses work best with black and gold accessories.

The Leather Jacket

Motorcycle-inspired apparel is also very efficient as the colder months approach. Instead of wearing a thin cotton cover-up or a heavy pea coat, leather provides a happy medium—thick enough to still be warm, but without the bulk of a coat.

Maggie Q is another star often seen in leather. She portrays an action hero or spy on the set, but it carries over into her personal red carpet style as well. Weighing only 103lbs at 5’6, her legs look miles long in a jeweled mini dress and leather jacket.

Maggie Q simply uses motorcycle apparel as an accessory. Alternatively, when she is not leather-clad she uses smoky eye makeup to create a similar mysterious appearance.

The Boots

Motorcycle boots are becoming popular both among celebrities and on the streets. Traditionally they have a low heel because their practical use is riding and heels can be distracting, however high heeled motorcycle “inspired” boots are also popular.

Natalie Portman strays from traditional gear wearing higher heeled, vegan footwear.

Paired with a white scarf, grey skinny jeans, and a powder pink pea coat, motorcycle boots give this otherwise innocent and feminine outfit a bit of edginess.

Supermodel Miranda Kerr is also often seen in strappy ankle-height motorcycle inspired boots or flats.

Fashion is a two-way street, too. Thanks to popularity in the fashion world, motorcycle boots designed for riding are now coming in more versatile styles, with or without heels.

Real motorcycle boots have to be durable and functional for safety reasons, but designers are putting more effort into downsizing from the traditional chunky boots and coming out with cuter, more fashion-friendly options.

Leather is becoming popular because it is so versatile. It can be manipulated into different styles and shapes, and can be made into virtually any article of clothing or accessory. What’s your pick?
