How to Travel Light with Style

Packing for a long trip with multiple destinations can be a real challenge. You want to be prepared for as many situations as possible and of course you want to look your best from time to time, but you certainly don’t want to be hauling several suitcases around with you. Travelling can be a tiring and stressful enough time as it is without having to worry about what to take with you, but it doesn’t have to be that way. To help you, here are some very simple ways that you can travel light while still maintaining an air of effortless style.

Stick to a simple colour palette

Keep your clothes to a very simple colour palette with ideally no more than 3 different colours which coordinate well together. This means you will have multiple outfit options by mixing and matching pieces. The colours you choose and the types of clothes you take will obviously be influenced by your destination and the weather you’re likely to experience. Versatility is key, so block colours rather than vibrant patterns are probably best. If you can’t wear every item in your suitcase at least 3 times, it shouldn’t be in there.

Keep shoes to a minimum

While it’s tempting to bring lots of shoes, if you’re really honest with yourself you don’t need any more than 3 pairs. You need some comfortable shoes for walking around in, exercise shoes, and sandals. If you are likely to be going out in the evenings, you may want to include some heeled sandals or low boots too.

Travel in your workout clothes

When you’re travelling between destinations it’s best to wear clothes which you’ll get a lot of wear out of and are comfortable. Modern active wear is not only comfortable, breathable and functional, it’s also highly fashionable and can look great if you choose the right brand. For example, compression leggings, a long-sleeved top (in a breathable fabric) and a hoodie are a great combination for any mode of travel or climate.

Bring accessories

Accessories can transform an outfit if you choose them well. You can lift a simple daytime look to chic evening wear with just a statement necklace, oversized earrings or a few rings. Try to find versatile ladies earrings and other jewellery items or even a couple of thin scarves. You probably want to bring all your make-up ‘just in case’, but it’s usually best to stick with the essentials and keep them in a small purse which can also work as an evening bag.

Have one dressy but versatile outfit

Whether you have a formal event during the trip or you just want to be prepared for every eventuality, it’s best to avoid taking dresses, jackets or suits which will take up space in your suitcase only to be worn once. All you really need is a thin slip dress, heeled sandals and you statement jewellery. All of these items will be worn again and again in different combinations so you won’t be using up unnecessary space.
